Today's Tease: The Barista Who Remembers Your Order and Your Laugh
A small counter ritual turns into a tease about being remembered, and why it feels so good.

There's a barista two streets from my stool who remembers my order. That's nice. But last Thursday she remembered my laugh, and that is a different level of dangerous. I came in grumpy, rain in my hair, and she said, without looking up, that I hadn't done the big laugh yet this week.
Think about how rare that is. Most of us go through the day as an order number, a login, a face in a lift. Then someone clocks the exact sound you make when something is truly funny, and suddenly you are not a customer, you are a person with a signature.
I did the big laugh, of course. It came out of me like I'd been holding it in a coat pocket. She slid the cup across with the little cardboard sleeve already on, and our fingers did that slow, accidental thing fingers do when nobody is in a hurry to be elsewhere.
Think about how rare that is.
Nothing happened. That's the beauty of it. A cup, a sleeve, a smile that lasted one beat past polite. But I carried that beat around all morning like a stolen sugar cube, taking it out whenever the emails got boring and letting it melt a little.
So here is your tease for today: notice who remembers you. And if you can, be the person who remembers someone else. Their coffee, their joke, the thing they said about their sister's wedding. Memory is the quietest form of flirting there is.
If you like the idea of being remembered, I keep my favourite stories on TheFriend, waiting for you like a regular's usual. Pull up a stool whenever you're ready.
Some stories deserve more than one cup. Meet Giulia on TheFriend and let her remember your name, too.
